Early Ideas 2.
Within the narrative of my music video, I have chosen to show the main singer in a relationship, using cutaways from the performance to the narrative. Here, this shows the link to the lyrics of "stay with me". However, towards the sound bridge, the couple will get into an argument. The girl, Alex, will walk out into the road, just after leaving the singer. I have decided to show her getting hit by a vintage car, to show the contrast of how the lyrics v("stay with me") can be interpreted. Now, "stay with me" will not just mean in the form of a relationship, but also physically, as she will be in hospital, "fighting for her life".
Inspirational Texts.
The ideas of the close ups of the main singer within You Me At Six's Finders Keepers are the types of shots that I want to include in my music video. Also, I like the use of slow motion in the narrative which is something I would like to incorporate.
Within Lana Del Rey's video to National Anthem, I like the whole concept of a happy narrative, then a major event towards the end which is what I want to create within my own work. I also like the use of vintage styled filters, creating an alternative feel to the video. I want to follow these ideas within my video, creating an alternative look.

Student Music Video Analysis.
The Fray - Absolute.
Camera- Use of a varied about of shot angles and focus pulls. wide variety of close ups, long shots and mid shots, that show the band. Some shots however get objects such as the basket ball hoop, reminding us it is not a real music video.
Editing- The editing pace of this video matches the tempo of the song well. They could of, however, used other transitions the make the editing more interesting. With the genre, I think that the straight cuts fit well because the bigger focus within the video is the actually performance
Actors- Within the video, only one actor is mainly shown throughout, which is the main singer. Other characters shown are the members of the band as the video mainly shows performance.
Costume- Following the conventions of Alternative Rock, the characters within the video are wearing darker or very basic clothing like a plain t-shirt, dark coloured trainers or shoes and black or blue jeans.
Props- The props used are mainly through the performance of the video. For example, drums, guitars and mics are used to show the performance and fit the conventions of the genre. The props are used accurately throughout the video.
Lighting- The lighting used in this video is low key, with the use of artificial lights, which illuminate only the faces and the instruments in shots, also creating silhouettes when the light is against the camera. This works well because it fits the genre and allows us to focus on the performance within the piece.
Make-up- There is no make-up visible during this video because the actors are all male. This fits the genre because the band members are usually portrayed as naturally attractive.
Setting- The basic setting, surrounded my lights works well as it benefits the increased use of camera and lighting. However, we can see that this is filmed in a gym as basket ball hoops are seen in the background however, this does not distract you from the purpose of the video.
Akon - Beautiful.
Camera- There are a variety of camera shots throughout the video. However there were many hand held shots. In the club scene, it could be effective to use handheld shots as it could show how the camera is pushing through the crowd to get to the artists and there could of been more close ups on the singers and the girls bodies and expressions. This video could of been better if the "performance" also showed uses of a tripod, so that it looked more professional.
Costume- The clothing also does not connote Hip Hop, as they are wearing football shirts and jeans, the actors must be wearing clothes that suit the genre. They should connote gangsta lifestyle, and show the generic stereotype of hip hop costume, such as shirts, low jeans and chains.
Props- There aren't many props used in this video. They could of use things like microphones and headphones when they're performing in the club to create more of a performance feel. One other prop they use is the disco lights. These are not really the best sort of lights they could of used for this video.
Lighting- The natural lighting works well as everything more visible. However the 'club' scene needed more clearer lighting, maybe spot lights showing the singers dancing with the girls. It wasn't clear who the artist was by the lighting in the club scene.
Avril Lavigne - My Happy Ending.
Camera- There is a very wide variety of shots used, making the video look professional and promotes the artist, as well as the narrative in a very effective way. The use of point of view shots from both the male and the female work very well to see both sides of the story.
Editing- The editing is simple, however works really well with this genre, which focuses mainly on the concept of the video rather than the way it looks. Fades and other transitions are used when appropriate and the slow motion allows us to see the characters that the actors are feeling, this also goes highly well with the sound bridges. The use of black and whitle allows us to see that these are her 'memories' within the narrative.
Actors- I felt that the actors in this video felt natural playing their parts and clearly had a good understanding of their role.
Costume- . The choice of clothing matched the genre of the song well and meets generic conventions, the colours; red, purple and black are all what you would expect to see in a Punk/Rock video.
Props- Throughout the video the artist is playing instruments, such as the guitar and the piano which shows a performance within the video.
Lighting- The use of spotlights during the puppet scenes connoted isolation compared to the outdoor shots where they made good use of natural lighting, placing the vocalist/props in the sunlight/shadows where appropriate within the song.

Editing- I feel that the editing was very straight forward, where they could of explored with this a bit more. There could of been more transitions such as fades and slow motion to show the sexualisation when dancing with the girls.
Actors- There were three main actors consistent throughout this music video. The miming and facial expressions showed that they were not taking their role seriously. However there gestures they made very exaggerated, alike rappers do in hip hop videos. The girls in the club made it obvious that they were uncomfortable with their role.Costume- The clothing also does not connote Hip Hop, as they are wearing football shirts and jeans, the actors must be wearing clothes that suit the genre. Pitch For The Idea's For My Music Video.
The feedback I got back, from my teacher was "will setting/props be available? and how will I make the car scene look realistic?" These were similar questions asked by the rest of the class. Considering settings, I would film on a sunny day, filming the band outside, in a field, or in contrast to the narrative, inside in an area such as the drama studio, where I can use artificial lighting. The props for the band are available through school and friends. As for the car scene, i have two ideas of either filming the car, moving slowly towards the actor, then speeding it up in editing or filming shot by shot of her rolling over the car as it hits her.
